ARISE AND SHINE, CHILD OF THE MOST HIGH (Inspirational)

by Aziza Uko

I often hear people make comments that indicate that because of age, height, weight, complexion, education, parental or social or economic status that a woman would find it difficult to get married. Eg. "I am 38 and on the big side...", "I have a Ph.D. so men would be afraid of me", "I am outspoken and confident, and my parents are rich, so... so, so", or "I have a son, so men would not want to marry me".

These beliefs are not true, they are planted by the enemy in the minds of believers to keep them down.

Yes, there will always be bigoted, inferior, prejudiced men and their families. But, there are countless men praying to God, night and day for a woman just like you.

I have seen men who married women who were HIV positive and the men were HIV negative. I have seen men, NIGERIAN men, (single and childless, never-been-married) marry women who had two or even more children out of wedlock and adopt those children. I have seen women who were morbidly obese get married multiple times. I have seen men cross the ocean in search of a woman who had a Ph.D. and was upper class in terms of financial status. What about countless women married to younger men?

The ultimate devil's accusation is that, "If only you were a virgin, you would be married by now." Well, to that, I have seen the customers of prostitutes marry them. I have seen men uproot a woman from her husband's house to marry her. I have seen men snatch a woman from their friend and marry her. I have also seen a prostitute move from a brothel to the church to wed a pastor and move into his house.

I want to encourage a child of the Almighty who may be suffering from wrong beliefs to stop putting a limitation on yourself. You are a daughter of Zion, a priest of the Most High God. You are a celebrity by default, a city on the Hill that cannot be hidden.

You are what you confess and believe. Begin to speak the truth of who you are to yourself and the universe. Wake up anytime - morning or night. Look at yourself in the mirror. It takes repetitive confession for the truth of who you are to sink into your very subconscious. You need to get up and chase out every single iota of a lie of the enemy (which is anything contrary to God's Word in your life) that is planted in your mind.

Say to yourself:

"Aziza, you are a child of a Lion. A child of a King. Your Father is the Everlasting God. You have dominion over the earth and the devil and all his works. Aziza, you are a city on a hill that cannot be hidden. You are the beloved daughter of the Most High God, the King of Heaven, the King of Glory. You are the salt of the earth, and the light of the world. Aziza, shine. Shine! Shine! The whole world must see your light! Aziza, you are sought after by the cream of the earth. Presidents and kings want to have audience with you. Aziza, you are an embodiment of virtue and of grace, and of favour, and wisdom. Everywhere you go, you bring tidings of the good news of the Gosple of Jesus Christ. Aziza, you are treasured. You are lifted. You are glorified with your Father. Aziza, you have a sound mind..." (Just keep going with the truth of who you are. Deuteronomy 28:1-14 is a good reference for the bountiful blessings that God has released to you as his beloved apple of his eye.)"

As you speak it, so you will see it come to pass.

FORGIVENESS IS KEY TO VICTORIOUS CHRISTIAN LIVING

by Aziza Uko

Jesus taught us to seek forgiveness from those who hold grudges against us (not just those people we offend). The Bible teaches that we should be at peace with all men. Christians should begin to make moves to establish peace with the people who hold grudges against them. Whoever does this begins to win his or her spiritual warfare and a burden is lifted off her and placed where it belongs, on Jesus Christ! And Jesus is able, more than willing, to mess up our enemies.

Where Jesus Christ instructed that we go seek forgiveness from those who BEAR GRUDGES against us:

Matthew 5:23-24 (NIV)
23 “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.

Where the Bible says we should make every effort to be at peace with all people.

Hebrew 12:14 (NIV)
Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.

Where the Bible lets us know that peace is a part of the FULL amour of God which we use to overcome the enemy in our spiritual warfare.

Ephesians 6:10-18 (NIV)

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Where the Bible makes it clear that we have to forgive everyone who offends us so that our own sins would be forgiven:

The LORD's Prayer (You may read it in full)
Matthew 6:12 (ISV)
... and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us.

Treating our enemies with kindness:
Romans 12:20
On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."

God deals with our enemies:
2 Thessalonians 1:6-7 (NIV)
6 God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you 7 and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well.

Christians live by the Law of Jesus Christ and not the Law of Moses. The Law of Moses teaches retaliation and hating of enemies. Jesus Christ commands that his followers love their enemies, pray for their enemies, do good to those who do evil to them, and turn the other cheek.

The writers of the Book of Psalms were living under the Law of Moses, so they wrote what they wrote and prayed the way they prayed. But Christians live under the Law of Jesus Christ and an-eye-for-an-e
ye is not the Law of Jesus Christ.

Understandably, this is a hard teaching. Even Jesus Christ acknowledged that his teaching will be hard to accept. Nobody says it is easy, but that is the Word and it is the responsibility of Christian teachers to teach what Jesus taught and not what followers want to hear.

Even if you pick on one verse and try to argue it out with an interpretation that allows you to disobey God (eg the verse on settling with someone who holds a grudge against you), you can't escape the teaching of Jesus Christ on forgiveness, doing good to those who do you evil, returning good for evil, turning the other cheek, and loving and praying for your enemies. It is a body of teaching and not just one verse.

Sadly, many Christian leaders, especially in Nigeria, have put aside the teaching of Jesus Christ on this subject and articulated a massive disobedience to the Word of God by teaching their members to return 'fire for fire', back-to-sender, 'dangerous' prayers, and all what not. It is so sad because by so doing, they rob the church of the manifestation of its true power.

This is manifested when Christians tend to attack the right teaching on forgiveness, even when you present the very words of Jesus Christ to them, they still find it hard to accept that Christianity is about forgiveness.

Our power is limited when we walk in disobedience to God. Our power is limited when we try to do God's job. When we stop trying to help ourselves, and let go to God 100%, that is when we see the full glory of God in our lives. Heaven doesn't help those who help themselves, heaven helps those who trust in the King of Heaven 100%, those who know that their help, all of their help comes from the Throne of Grace.

So, no matter how unpopular the Word (sadly) is among Christians today, the Word will not change. I, Aziza Uko-Douglas, will not ever change the Word to suit public opinion. I am not and will never be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Is it easy to do? Not at all. But, have I done it before. Yes. Did it hurt as I did it? Of course! Did my flesh resist it? Of course. Did the devil tell me I was reducing myself to apologise to people who wrecked my home, tried to kill (and were still trying), stole my money, tried to terminate my career, backstabbed me and more? Of course, he did.

But, thank God (and may he forever continue to bless him) for the man God brought into my life to lead me back onto the right path. It is not easy. But let me share what the Holy Spirit revealed to me, as I forgave everyone but one person.

This one person (not romantic) was someone I invested so much in, I spent over N3 million developing his career, even risking my own career for him. He maliciously walked out on my contract with him, owed me money and refused to pay and began to spread nasty rumours about me. I was pained, to say the least.

I forgave everyone else and reached out to them. But, I forgave him and did not reach out to him. Then one night, the Holy Spirit continually pushed his matter before me when I was praying. I tried to ignore it, he asked me to consider my future and all the great things I desire and imagine if holding out on this person who obviously didn't have bright future was worth not actualising my glorious destiny. Immediately, I repented. I reached for my phone and sent him a text asking him to forgive me because I am human and I am sure I must have offended him one way or more. He replied that all was well and I should pray for him. We have met a couple of times since.

Within 6 months, I recorded testimonies that continue to shake people who hear them. I met my husband, I began a new walk with God, I started a new career as a journalist, within 2 months, I was interviewing the President of my own country (the ultimate booking for a journalist) - no lobbying, nothing. One evening a call came that Mr President is ready to take your questions... I used to spend my own money travelling abroad, these days, I fly all expense paid by other people around the world. When I had my youngest child, the doctors thought I was not 'human' because by all medical accounts, my BP was out of this world (some of the equipment were not built to take my BP reading) I was supposed to be either dead or in coma/stroke but I was conscious, sitting, talking to them, even cracking jokes with them. All the nurses kept saying that everytime they see me, they see a miracle...

My life before I decided to accept God's Word as it was given and the life after is totally different. And I believe that by that singular act of obedience, I rewrote my story.

And guess what, God has not failed on doing His own work - which is to protect me, defend me, and take vengeance on my enemies. My duty is to forgive and do good to them, pray for their salvation, and turn the other cheek. God's job is to make sure they don't hurt me and dispense His righteous and speedy judgement on them. He is faithful.

All of this happened because someone insisted on not following the bandwagon and teaching the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and he led me to that place where I said, "Lord, I will do whatever you said I should do, where ever it may lead."

My prayer is that all of God's children will get to such a place.

YOU CAN SET THE TIME FOR YOUR MIRACLE - PART IV

by Aziza Uko

Read the first part of this 4-part series HERE and the 2nd part HERE and the 3rd part HERE

A COMMONLY MISAPPLIED SCRIPTURE

A commonly misquoted Biblical writing that makes people believe that God has set the time for their marriage, job, children is one of the writings attributed to King Solomon.(Read: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, 10-11).
Those verses don’t in anyway say that God sets a time for people to get married. It just uses beautiful poetry to make observations of the seasons in life. In fact, from verses 1 to 8, God is not mentioned. Then there is the verse that people hang unto to say that God sets the time for a person to get her heart’s desires.
“10 I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it. 11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.”

These verses don't say that God fixes a time for you to get married or to have a baby or to get a job. Bible verses are best read as they are. The problems people have is instead of accepting the Word as written, they jump into interpretation without first understanding his word.

“God makes ALL things beautiful at HIS TIME.” The key words are 'God', 'all things', 'his time'. This is quoted whenever someone gets a delayed miracle. But the question is, has there ever been a time or a situation where ALL THINGS (ALL THINGS means just that - ALL THINGS,) are beautiful? If the Bible had said 'all things concerning a matter, or concerning a man, or concerning a wedding, or concerning a pregnancy' then, it would possibly apply to the recipient of a delayed blessing. No matter the testimony somebody has, never have ALL THINGS been beautiful. The simple interpretation of that verse is that “At God's own time, He will make all things beautiful.”

Don't forget that the Bible prophesies of a day when he will remove pain and suffering from the earth. No more sin. There will be no more death, no more sickness, no more weeping. No more ugliness on this earth. “3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” (Read: Revelation 21:1-4)

Some parts of King Solomon’s writing, even in the said chapter, are contrary to what God says in the rest of the Bible. Bible scholars believe that King Solomon was a fallen man when he wrote this Book and that many of his “under the sun” and “all is vanity” proclamations are out-rightly false, some are partially true. E.g. King Solomon said in that chapter that man and beast are equal. “19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.“ (Read: verse 19)

Is man and beast equal? By no means. Man was made in the image and likeness of God and a little lower than heavenly beings. (Read: Genesis 1:27, Psalm 8:5) As a matter of fact, when man fell, God said we were now like him. Isn’t that amazing, upon the fall of man, not before, God said, “And the LORD God said, BEHOLD, THE MAN IS BECOME AS ONE OF US, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever.” (Genesis 3:22)

This is the danger of the stand-alone verse. Any Bible verse that stands alone i.e. there is no other Bible verse that supports this same verse is shaky. This is the Word of God, “In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.” (Read: Deuteronomy 17:6, Matthew 18:16, 2 Corinthians 13:1)

Is Your Delayed Marriage God’s Doing?

Let us dwell on marriage a bit.

The first marriage: once God identified the need, he set about getting a helpmeet for Adam and God did not rest till Adam identified his helpmeet and when that happened there was an immediate joining. (Read: Genesis 2:18 -25) #NoDelays

The first ever marriage prayer ever prayed, God answered immediately. It was prayed by the servant of Abraham on a hunt for a wife for Isaac. Rebekkah emerged, she met the criteria, she agreed to follow him immediately. Immediately Isaac met her, they married. (Read: Genesis 24) #NoDelays

Ruth: Upon obedience to her mother-in-law, she got proposed married to by Boaz in the morning with a promise for her to be married by sun-down. Under 24 hours she was married. (Read: Ruth 3, 4; Read the entire Book of Ruth) #NoDelays

God looked at Adam and said “it is not good for man to be alone” and the solution that came to that problem was marriage. Which means it is good for a man/woman to be married. “Marriage is honourable in all”, the Bible says. God even promises favour to a man who gets married to motivate  men to get married. So, why would God deny his child who desires to marry the fulfillment of her hearts desires? (Read: Genesis 2:18, Hebrew 13:4, Proverbs 18:22)

Your Heavenly Father knows we (Africans) live in a societies that gives honour and respect to married women over single women (It is not right, but that is the way it is), why would he decide to take his daughters through the pain and torture of staying single for decades after she began to desire to get married? Why would he move his precious apples of his eye from heartbreak to heartbreak in wait for 'his time'? How does a woman getting married for the first time when she has passed menopause glorify God? How does your singleness fit into his plan? Why would his plan include decades of unwanted loneliness and burning with unmet passion (or attempts to fulfill that passion outside marriage)?

Being single is not a curse. So, don't misquote me. If you are single and have no desire to marry, that is fine. You are a blessed daughter of Zion whether you are married or not. I am referring to a single lady who has the desire to marry.

Within a reasonable time, she should receive several suitors, meet her right spouse, make a right choice with the help of the Holy Spirit, and get married.

God clearly says it nothing evil, no sickness, no temptation comes from him.

Question #4:
Does God intentionally delay our blessing or answers to our prayers to deliver them at his own time?

There is no Bible verse whatsoever to support this belief. I have heard famous TV pastors say that when you pray, God can give three answers - yes, no, or not now. This is not in line with scriptures or what Jesus Christ taught us about prayer. Jesus said:

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” Mark 11:24-25 (NIV)

Forgiveness is absolutely important… forgive those who wrong you. Don’t wish them evil or pray evil back to them in prayers. Forgive them. Unforgiveness is one of the leading causes of delayed miracles. Forgive, forgive, forgive.

Jesus Christ also said:

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-11 (NIV)

Then he went on to show us the nature of our Heavenly Father in a very powerful comparison:

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:7-11 (NIV)

Jesus Christ also promised in John 14:13-14, John 15:7, John 15:16, Matthew 18:18-19:

“And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” (NIV)

“If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” (NIV)

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” (NIV)

“Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be[a] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[b] loosed in heaven.”

“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.”

Note the blanket nature of Jesus pronouncements. He didn’t say when it pleases God or at the appointed time of God. He says ‘whoever’, ‘whatever’, ‘anything’.

2 Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord is not slack concerning [His] promise.”

James 1:13 says, "Let no one say when he is tempted. 'I am being tempted by God'; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and he himself does not tempt anyone."

Why would God say go and come back tomorrow, when he is not broke? When it takes him less than a split second to heal you? When he doesn't have to consult with anyone to bless you? When he owns the entire world and the fullness thereof, why would he keep his own child poor, then give money to drug dealers? (Psalm 24) Why would he deny his child a means of livelihood when He rules in the affairs of men - when he knows that ‘money answers all things’ and you can’t function effectively without money? Why would he deny his child a life-partner (while unbelievers get married, even multiple times) to prove what? Why would he keep you childless? How does that glorify him?

Prayer is another topic in itself. And it is pivotal because it is when people pray and they don't get results that they start looking for a fall-back scripture such as the next commonly misapplied scripture.

Question #2:
Do we determine when we get a blessing in life? In other words, do we have any control over the timing of our miracle?

We absolutely do. The Word of God says that the earth, God has gave to us (not Satan). We lost that dominion to sin, Christ Jesus came to take away our sins and restore our dominion on this earth and he succeeded. We have been restored to God's original plan, the original dominion, the original relationship for man. We are the gods of this world. We rule, we control things. Heaven is open. We just have to take it. (Read: Genesis 1:26-27, Psalm 115:16, Luke 19:10, Colossians 1:19 – 20,
Matt 28:18-20, Job 22:28)

If it is all in God's hands as we have been misled to believe then there would be no need for prayer, faith would have no role to play because whether you believe or not, when God is ready, he will send you your blessing. Whether you pray or not, God's timing supersedes everything.

Let us look at what God says about our power, about our control over what happens.

In Mark 11:24 Jesus says, “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”

Job 22:28 says, “
Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.”

In Mark 11:23, Jesus Christ said, “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.”

Isaiah 54:17 says, No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of Me,” saith the Lord.”

The next verse underscores how relevant we are in the scheme of things:

Amos 3:7 says, “Surely the Lord God will do nothing, unless He revealeth His secret unto His servants the prophets.”

Question #3:
Is there anything we can do to get a miracle when we want it? In other words, is there anything we can do to move heaven on our behalf?

Yes, we do. Let's look at what people in the Bible did to move Heaven on their behalf and set the time for their miracle.

Abraham
God promised Abraham a son and promised him the son again but the son didn't come. (Read: Genesis 15:1-6, Genesis 17:1-22). Note that God didn’t put a time on it. He never said when he would give Abraham the son, the promised heir. Abraham believed God. Most Christians agree on the importance of faith in receiving from God. So, it cannot be over flogged. Without faith, it is impossible to please God.

Then one day, Abraham received a visit from three men, the Bible says that one of them was the LORD. What did Abraham do? With haste, he told his wife to quickly prepare bread, he selected the best sheep, killed it, made a rich meal, and presented it to the angels. He made a sacrifice to God. And then the following conversation happened:

And they said to him, Where is Sarah your wife? And he said, [She is here] in the tent.
10 [The Lord] said, I will surely return to you when the season comes round, and behold, Sarah your wife will have a son. And Sarah was listening and heard it at the tent door which was behind Him.
11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in years; it had ceased to be with Sarah as with [young] women. [She was past the age of childbearing].
12 Therefore Sarah laughed to herself, saying, After I have become aged shall I have pleasure and delight, my lord (husband), being old also?
13 And the Lord asked Abraham, Why did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I really bear a child when I am so old?
14 Is anything too hard or too wonderful for the Lord? At the appointed time, when the season [for her delivery] comes around, I will return to you and Sarah shall have borne a son. (Amplified Bible)
He received God, he made haste, he choose his best, he sacrificed it, he presented it to God. He moved God to set a time for his miracle. Even when Sarah laughed at the Word, God restated his promise and it came to pass.  (Read Genesis 18:1-16)

Hannah
She was a childless wife in a polygamous marriage. Every year, she went up to Shiloh with her husband , co-wife, and children to sacrifice and worship the LORD.  This particular year, she not only sacrificed and worshiped, but she prayed fervently, she made a vow onto the LORD, and the priest Eli, made a pronouncement on her request.

Note the 4 elements, the last 3 – fervent prayers, a vow, and a pronouncement from the priest were the new things that happened that year and Hannah got her miracle. (Read: 1 Samuel 1)

King Hezekiah
Hezekiah was a King of Judah and he was ill to the point of death. The LORD sent Isaiah the prophet to tell him that his time had come for him to die. Hezekiah turned his face to the wall, and he prayed fervently, he asked God to bring to remembrance his faithfulness. And an immediately, God told Isaiah to go back with a new message, God had heard him, God had answered his prayer, the prophet set the time for his healing, and gave an instruction on what should be done and God added 15 years to the king. Note the 3 things Hezekiah did – he turned his face to the wall (away from all that was around him), he prayed fervently. (Read: 2 Kings 20:1-11)

The Shunammite Woman
There was an unnamed woman who was childless who showed kindness to the servant of God, the Prophet Elisha. She provided him and his servant with lodging when they passed by her town because she perceived him to be ‘a holy man of God’. So one day, Elisha asked what could be done for her. His servant noted that she was childless and her husband was old. And the Prophet invited her and said:
14 Later Elisha said, What then is to be done for her? Gehazi answered, She has no child and her husband is old.
15 He said, Call her. [Gehazi] called her, and she stood in the doorway.
16 Elisha said, At this season when the time comes round, you shall embrace a son. She said, No, my lord, you man of God, do not lie to your handmaid.
17 But the woman conceived and bore a son at that season the following year, as Elisha had said to her.
Note: She gave something to a man of God because she perceived him to be a ‘holy man of God’, she sacrificed and the man of God set a time for her miracle. (Read: 2 Kings 4:8-37)

If you do what these people did, you get the miracle they got. God is not partial. If you receive God into your life, you sacrifice (animal sacrifice is not done in Christianity, you sacrifice your life as a living sacrifice, you sacrifice your time, talent, and your resources to the Work of God, let the Holy Spirit lead you when it comes to what and where to sacrifice), you pray fervently (take God’s Word back to him, be fervent, talk to God, forget enemies, talk to your Father), believe. You will get your miracle.

YOU CAN SET THE TIME FOR YOUR MIRACLE

by Aziza Uko

This message is derived from 4 questions which are frequently asked in the Body of Christ.

1. Does God determine when we get a blessing in life?

2. Do we determine when we get a blessing in life? In other words, do we have any control over the timing of our miracle?

3. Is there anything we can do to get a miracle when we want it?

4. Does God intentionally delay our blessing or answers to our prayers to deliver them at his own time?

Preamble
I have come to realize the power of our minds. Once we are taught a particular thing and tune our mindset accordingly, it takes a conscious effort to re-tune our mind and re-tune it. (Read: Proverbs 23:7, Proverbs 4:23, Romans 12:2)

I also know that many Christians believe so many wrong things and because of that we suffer needlessly. The only reason given in the Bible for why a Christian would suffer is her ignorance. That is all. The devil can't torment a Christian; he can't attack you with sickness, disease, poverty, and so on. God will also not inflict pain and suffering on you. The only reason given in scripture for a Christian to suffer bad things is ignorance and the only thing that can set a Christian free is knowing the truth.

Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”

Isaiah 5:13 says, “Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.”

I used to be a victim of wrong teachings and I suffered so many times, terrible pain till I came in contact with the scriptural truth concerning my life and my destiny in God. I didn't go for any deliverance, in fact, I stopped intense fasting when I realised the truth about fasting. My prayers became shorter, simpler, straight to the point, and unbelievably effective - when I received the truth contained in the scriptures concerning my relationship with my Heavenly Father.

Since, I received this liberating message, I have dedicated my life to using my talent (ability to communicate) to teach fellow Christians what I know so they too might be set free.

Why this lengthy preamble? Testimonies are powerful. They liberate. Also, so that some people would be able to understand why I take time to write so much on a forum like this. Also, so people whom this teaching may concern won't feel like they are being 'attacked' Not so, this is about liberty.

The only person under attack when wrong teachings are being corrected is the devil. He is the father of lies. The Bible says that the ONLY tool he has left is tricks. Nothing more. He has no power. When Jesus rose from the dead, he declared, "All power in heaven and on earth has been given unto me. Go in my name." The devil just has tricks. (Read: Matthew 28:18 John 8:44, Matthew 24:24, Ephesians 6:11, Psalm 62:11, 2 Peter 5:11-13)

An example of his tricks is that many Christians think he is a strong lion that can take anybody down. He is no lion. The Bible says he goes around like a, like a, like a (repeated for emphasis) roaring lion seeking whom to devour. The only lion in the Bible is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. (1 Peter 5:8, Revelations 5:5)

The devil is so defeated, so defeated, disgraced, messed up by Jesus Christ that he doesn't want you to realize that, hence he goes about trying to trick you.

And among Christians, his number one tool is twisting the Word of God, changing a word or two so that you will be led to believe wrong things. The moment you start believing a wrong thing, you begin to suffer in the order of your beliefs. Just in the same way that the moment you fall in line with the Word of God, you begin to walk in the order of the Giver of the Word.

Why does the devil try to twist God's Word and lead you to believe wrong things? He knows that he has no power over you. He knows the only way you can be destroyed is if you destroy yourself. And how will he get you to do that? He knows that as you think, so you are. So he tries to plant all kinds of wrong things in your mind. He sends out wrong preachers to send a wrong message even planting his agents in churches to fabricate testimonies that aren’t rooted in scriptures.

So, my sister, please open up your mind and ask for the Holy Spirit to teach you what you should know and what you should unlearn. Just open up your mind and if I am unable to show you from the scriptures what I teach, then you are free to reject it and move on. (Read: John 16:13)

As Christians, if someone teaches you something and it is not backed up with scriptures. You will not accept it. So, the devil twists one or two scriptures to back up a preconceived wrong teaching. Because he knows that once we are led to believe a wrong thing, it acts as a stronghold in our minds and our mind, is our life. The stronghold mentioned in the spiritual warfare in the Bible is in the mind, it is not a tree in your village. It is not a wicked boss who is sitting on your promotion or a wicked step-mom that swore you won't ever get married. It is a wrong belief in your mind. (Ephesians 6)

So, let us answer the 4 questions from the scriptures.

Question #1:
Does God determine when we get a blessing in life?

Every good and perfect gift comes from above. God causes the sun to shine on the good and the bad. God is the one who blesses us. He is the Great Provider. Children are a reward from Him. He daily fills our mouths with good things. He prepares a table before us in the presence of our enemies. He gives us power to make wealth. He feeds us. He clothes us. He provides all our needs according to his riches and glory. There is no denying that our blessings come from God. (Read: James 1:17, Matthew 5:45, Deuteronomy 28:2, Psalm 127, Psalms 103:3-5, Deuteronomy 8:18, Psalm 23, Psalm 81:10, Psalm 84:11, Psalm 113:9, Genesis 33:5, Psalm 128:1-6, Galatians 3:29, Galatians 3:9, John 10:10, John 8:44, Deuteronomy 7:14,Exodus 23:26, Jeremiah 29:11, Psalm 75:6, Ephesians 2:10, Psalm 37:4, Psalm 5:12, Job 22:28, Genesis 39:21, Exodus 11:3, Joshua 11:20, Psalm 35:27, Luke 6:38, 2 Corinthians 9:6-11, 3 John 2, Psalms 118:23-25, Nehemiah 5:1-13, Romans 13:8, Mark 11:24, Malachi 3:10-12, Isaiah 48:17, Philippians 4:19, Matthew 6:25-33, John 15:7, Deuteronomy 28:1-14, Ephesians 3:20, Galatians 6:9, Joel 2:25-26, Matthew 6:1, Psalms 84:11, Deuteronomy 6:11. The promises of God in the Bible are so many.)

All these verses tell us where and what, but they don't say when. He puts no limits to our blessings - he says till we are filled. Till we have no more room to store his blessings. That tells us that God's gives us a blank cheque. A blank cheque is signed by the account holder and the bearer (the receiver) has the responsibility of filling in the name, amount, and date and present it to the bank for payment.

#MYTHBUSTING: IS YOUR MATRIMONIAL BEDROOM A SANCTUARY?

by Aziza Uko

A RECENTLY MARRIED young Christian lady married posted this message on one of the many Internet forums for women:
Please I need your candid opinion on this. Due to the increase in workload at the office, I can’t keep my home the way I want to and I also don’t want to have a live-in domestic help. I am thinking of employing a part-time domestic help so I can have time to keep up with the demands of my research work. The problem, however is that my mum always tells me that my bedroom is a sanctuary and I shouldn’t allow a ‘stranger’ step into it. I have also heard this from a female pastor. But, if this person cannot clean my room and my bathroom (because my room is en-suite), what then is the point of hiring her? What are your views on this?
Summary of this is that some Christians, mostly Pentecostal in persuasion, believe and teach that the bedroom where a husband and wife sleep is a ‘sacred place’, a sanctuary, actually. To prove that this belief is prevalent, some of the first few comments on her post went like these:
“A home needs to be sanctified at least once or twice a month. This is important because we come in contact with people every day and you don’t know what their human spirit – their energy – is!! So also, when you have anyone other than you or your husband goes into your bedroom, once they leave, sanctify your room!”

“Your bedroom is your sanctuary. Or do you want the person cleaning your room start to imagine you having sex with your husband.”

“My dear, indeed your bedroom is sacred so you should safeguard it courteously. Your mum is right and you should listen to her. Tidying up your room should be your top priority as that is where you consummate your marriage with your spouse.”

My response to all of the above? Read below:

First of all, the notion that a matrimonial bedroom is "a sanctuary", a place that is exclusive to husband and wife (and children) to enter is not scriptural.

Many people preach this idea, they are not being scriptural when they do. Most of the time, they are just repeating something that they heard someone else say, and when they heard it, it made sense to them.

The only place the Bible speaks of the marriage bed in the New Testament it figuratively refers to the sexual relationship between a husband and a wife. "Marriage is honourable in ALL and BED undefiled." This is more or less stating a truth that marriage is honourable in ALL and that sex between a husband and a wife is clean. It is not even a commandment. It is a statement of truth. (Read: Hebrews 13:4)

The matrimonial bed (where husband and wife sleep) is not a 'place of worship'. Though as a Christian, you can be led to worship, praise, pray, meditate at any place at all. It can be on your bed. It can also be anywhere - in your car, at your desk, in a plane, in the toilet.

Another related myth I often hear Christians say is that sex is an act of worship. Sex is NOT an act of worship. That belief is not Biblical in anyway. I don't know where people get that notion that sex is an act of worshipping God. It doesn't even make sense and it is causing inhibitions in Christian homes. Because Christians link worship with piety and soberness, people who believe these myths tend to approach sex with ‘reverence’ and hence so many Christians think any sex position outside the ‘missionary’ style is dirty. And the notion that the marital bed is ‘the sanctuary’ restricts the sense of adventure in a Christian couple’s sex life because people who believe these myths, tend to always do it on the bed and only the bed.'

As a matter of fact, the Bible states that it is pagans and people who practice abhorable rituals that include sex in their worship routines and God finds these acts abominable.

In modern society, most of the sex of a couple happens in their bedroom. But what about couples that have sex anywhere in the house, on the living room couch, on the kitchen table, on his study desk, in the car, even in the children's room? Is that going to transform any spot a married couple chooses to have sex into a sanctuary? Even their office desk, a hotel room, a resort?

Biblically, God doesn’t place any restrictions on the sex life of a married couple. God doesn't put a cap on how often a married couple should have sex and he surely doesn't specify a place where it should happen. And he certainly didn't say that where it happens must be a special place designated for it, and neither did he say where you "consumate" your marriage is a sanctuary.

In the Old Testament, the sanctuary of God was a place where God lived, where God's presence was found. In the New Testament he lives in your body. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. As far as desecration goes, we should be more concerned with what comes out of us. Jesus Christ said, “It is not what goes in, but what comes out that defiles a man.” (Read: 1 Corinthians 6:19, Mark 7:15). We should be more concerned about keeping our wedding vows than keeping a room sacred. What happens when you move house? Or change rooms?

What about low-income families that can't afford a bedroom to themselves? Those who live in one room with their entire family? So, they don't have a sanctuary?

If the belief that nobody except you should enter your marital bedroom is driven by privacy concerns or to safeguard valuables, that is fine. But what drives this belief most of the time is FEAR. Fear that the person who enters your bedroom could harm you. Fear that they can bring “juju” (charms) into your room and cause problems in your marriage, or even separate a husband and a wife. That is the underlying reason for the whole culture of ‘my bedroom is a sacred place, don't enter!'

I have even heard some women say that their mothers or mother-in-law should not step into their bedrooms. And such women lose sleep over their husband's mother going into their bedroom, creating a mountain out of cotton wool... Such ridiculousness is derived from this 'sanctuary' belief. A mother should feel free in her child's house. (A topic for another day, I guess).

All the other issues raised i.e. should a maid come in and clean my room and other questions, take us back to the question: Why are we afraid? What are we afraid of? Should we be afraid?

When we understand who we are as Christians, we will become the most fearless people on earth. We have FULL dominion on this earth over ALL forces, even the force of nature. Our Heavenly Father tells us over 300 times in His Word, “Fear not”, “Do not be afraid”. (Read: Isaiah 41:10)

The Words of Jesus Christ: "NOTHING shall by ANY MEANS HURT YOU." The word says, 'No evil shall come near your dwelling.' Shall come near, come near. (Read: Luke 10:19, Psalm 91:10)

How can somebody succeed in separating a daughter of Zion from her husband? Who is that person? What is that thing that the person will use that the child of God doesn't have dominion over?

Jesus said, "Behold, I give you power to thread upon serpents and scorpions and over ALL the power of the enemy."

Nothing the devil does have power over you, unless you give it power with your fear which leads to your failure to exercise your dominion. (Read: Job 3:25)

That evil person(s) who would want to hurt us, they should be afraid of us not the other way round. As a child of God, you are camped around, hedged around, fully fortified by the Hosts of Heaven. Nothing, nothing shall by any means hurt you.

When the Word of God becomes second nature to us, we will walk in the true liberty of Christ. You'll throw away, 'the devil, the devil' mindset and adopt a dominion lifestyle.

So, when it comes to the issue of who works for you in your house, a demonic person is supposed to even run away from you and refuse to work in your house. Such a person is supposed to be uncomfortable in your house to begin with. The moment anyone begins to think evil towards you, your angels swing into action to protect you and "recompense trouble to they that trouble you." (Read: Psalm 91:11, 2 Thessalonians 1:6)

If someone can harm you by entering your bedroom, can't the person harm you by entering your living room or kitchen or by washing your clothes? Think about it? If ‘juju’ dropped in the bedroom will work, will ‘juju’ dropped in your living room not work as well?

It is time to throw this fearful mindset out and walk in the liberty of Christ.

Do you permit a househelp, maid, or cleaner clean your matrimonial bedroom? You decide what you want. Would you like to honour your mom and do as she says? It is up to you. But that decision should not be driven by fear of being harmed by anybody. Choose what is convenient for you or what you are comfortable with.

My pick of the world's sexiest man - President Barack Obama - don't you think millions of women and men - imagine him in bed with Michelle? How does that concern Michelle? Does the person have to enter your bedroom to imagine you having sex with your husband? And what impact does someone's wild imagination have on you? Can you control someone's thoughts? Is there even a limit to the imagination of man? The person can imagine you dead, sick, poisoned, in a fatal accident?

Our concern should be our own thoughts because it is our thoughts that become our reality. "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. (Read: Proverbs 23:7)" Let us think Bible thoughts, dominion thoughts, victorious thoughts. And most of all, let us align our thoughts with God's own thoughts towards us which are of good and not of evil to give us an expected end. (Read: Jeremiah 29:11)
